The Route
We start at Schönbrunn, the vast yellow palace that served as the Habsburg summer residence for centuries.
Beyond the palace lie the formal gardens, the Gloriette and the view back over the whole city.
It is the best place to understand the scale of imperial Vienna.
From Schönbrunn we drive into the old city, to the square around St. Stephen's Cathedral and its patterned roof.
The surrounding streets hold the imperial apartments, the great museums and some of Europe's oldest coffee houses.
It is the heart of the city, and the part people return to.
We finish with a drive along the Ringstrasse, the wide boulevard laid out where the old city walls once stood.
Along it stand the Opera, the Parliament, the Town Hall and the museums, all built in the same confident imperial style.
You will have free time here, and a simple arrangement for where to meet again.
